The controversial P1 WiMAX broadband advertisement which repeatedly stressed the word “potong” (cut) is being reviewed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM).
Deputy Information, Communication, Culture and Arts Minister Heng Saei Kie said the advertisement was being reviewed to determine whether it contravened the Content Code.
In her reply to Datuk Mohamed Aziz (BN-Sri Gading), Heng said all advertisements, prior to being aired, need to be approved by the Censorship Board under the Home Ministry.
“The Censorship Board does not come under this ministry,” she said.
Earlier, Mohamed stood up to ask Heng about the ad, laughingly saying, “When we say ‘potong,’ people will think potong itu-lah (referring to circumcision).”
“If possible, potong the advertisement,” he said.
As Mohamed drifted on to lament the plight of local artistes, Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar interjected, “Yang Berhormat, please be brief. I will not use the word ‘potong’ on you.”
Mohamed was quick to respond, “Oh, in this case, saya tidak dipotong-lah (I was not cut).”
