The Ext4 filesystem, which was officially declared stable in Linux kernel 2.6.28, is now available in the latest Ubuntu 9.04 daily CD builds. Preliminary benchmarks show that it delivers significantly better performance.

Version 2.6 of the Linux kernel was released in late 2003 and since then the developers have stuck with the 2.6.x.y version numbering. Version 2.6.27 of the Linux kernel has officially been released. The new version includes the ath9k wireless driver, the UBIFS filesystem for flash-based devices, and improved webcam support.
