Hari (Sanskrit: हरि) is another famous name of Viṣṇu or Narayana, and appears as the 650th name in the Vishnu sahasranama of Mahabharata. In Srimad Bhagavata or Bhagavata Purana, Lord Narayana is oftenly termed as Hari which usually means Supreme Being who takes away all the pains and sufferings of his devotees and destroys the material bondage of living entities and gives them liberation or moksha. Bhagavata Purana declares, It is only the Para Brahman Supreme Being Shri Hari, who can grant liberation or moksha or nirvana to living beings. In Sanskrit “hari” sometimes refers to a colour, green, yellow, or fawn-coloured/khaki. It is the colour of the Sun and of Soma. The word Hari is widely used in Dharmic literature as worshippable lord covering Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh religions.
