Apple has officially announced the new MacBook Air 2020, delivering up to two times more performance than the previous generation. Alongside major speed improvements, the new model introduces the redesigned Magic Keyboard, doubles base storage, and comes at a lower starting price of $999 — or $899 for education customers.
Twice the Performance in a Thin and Light Design
The refreshed MacBook Air is reported to offer double CPU performance and up to 80% faster graphics performance compared to its predecessor. This means smoother multitasking, faster productivity workflows, and improved gaming capability — all while maintaining the ultra-portable Air form factor.
Apple has also doubled the base storage to 256GB, giving users more room for photos, videos, documents, and applications right out of the box.
Powered by Quad-Core Intel Processors
For the first time, the MacBook Air is available with Intel quad-core processors. The top configuration features a 1.2GHz Intel Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz. This delivers faster performance for everyday computing tasks such as photo organization, presentation creation, and video editing.
Graphics are handled by Intel Iris Plus Graphics, providing noticeably better visual performance for creative work and entertainment.
Magic Keyboard Comes to MacBook Air
The new Magic Keyboard, previously introduced in the MacBook Pro, now arrives on the MacBook Air. The redesigned scissor mechanism provides 1mm of key travel for a more comfortable and stable typing experience.
Apple has also improved the arrow key layout with an inverted “T” arrangement, making navigation easier without needing to look down at the keyboard.
Better Value Than Ever
With increased performance, improved keyboard design, doubled storage, and a lower entry price, Apple describes this as the best MacBook Air ever made for its class. It’s a compelling upgrade for students, professionals, and everyday users alike.
