Snowstorm cuts power to more than 100K in Northeast

A late-February storm has brought more than a foot of snow to much of Maine, leaving nearly 100,000 homes and businesses without power and canceling classes at hundreds of schools.

The storm that arrived late Sunday dumped heavy wet snow in the overnight hours, snapping tree limbs and utility lines. According to the National Weather Service, the deepest totals were recorded in western Maine, where Bridgton got 25 inches and Jay received 22 inches.

Central Maine Power said that at least 83,800 homes and businesses were without power as of 5 a.m. Monday. Bangor Hydro Electric said more than 12,200 of its customers had lost power as of 4 a.m. More…
