RTM 2

RTM2 is a television station in Malaysia that is owned by the Malaysian Government through Radio Televisyen Malaysia.

Broadcasting of RTM2 began in 17 November 1969 when the RTM tv channel was split into two channels. It offers entertainment programs, films in Malay, English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tamil, and Hindi. There are also few dramas and movies in Thai and Spanish.

RTM2, the popular television station from RTM appeared with a new image and sloganYour Family Channel (Formerly known as The Golden Channel). The launch of RTM2 as Your Family Channel was on August 20, 2004, after the renewing of RTM1 that was launched on August 4 when RTM1 was changed to The Infotainment Channel by the Information Minister, Datuk Paduka Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir.

As one of government departments, some elements such as sex and violence are controlled. With the competition with other increasing commercial networks which is expanding, new programs such as Playtime On 2, E-Shoppers, Whassup and Elegance On 2 were introduced to the network. Other than that, for the Chinese and Indian viewers, new slot are introduced. Called “Jajaran Cinta”, it showcases Tamil and Hindi programmes daily at 5:00pm till 7:00pm. Mandarin and Cantonese programmes are aired from 7:00pm till 11:30pm on Mondays, while Tuesdays to Sundays starts from 7:00pm till 8:30pm. Chinese programmes are also aired in the morning on weekdays at 10:00 a.m. till 12:30 a.m. and in the wee hours of 1:30 a.m.

As trying to succeed the renewal of RTM, is an effort to apply the good things to direct to the building of personality to make it stable and accessible to the station recently. Although TV2 is more commercial, it will also do the rights to promote the family values with the variation of programs.

On April 1, 2006, RTM2 assumed its present name (previously known as TV2), but its slogan remains the same; and from April 3, 2006, this channel broadcasts 24 hours daily, offering more programmes for viewers who stay up late to watch television.

Both RTM1 and RTM2 as well as its 32 radio stations celebrates its 61st Anniversary Bash this year (2007).

Formerly, RTM2 airs TV Pendidikan from 1972-1999. Now, TV Pendidikan airs on TV9.

RTM2 currently broadcasts under VHF (Very High) Frequency band III, although some parts of Malaysia retransmits the signal in UHF. In the Klang Valley, the VHF channel for RTM2 is 8, with a weaker transmission on channel 10 in certain parts of the Klang Valley.

Most recently, this channel has been criticized for not airing most of the F1 events (only 7 out of the 17 races live, the rest are delayed telecast). Many viewers are upset that RTM is not serious about the coverage and this telecast rights should be given back to private TV stations.

RTM2 is also available over Astro on channel 102.
