Research Project to Enhance Existing OpenSolaris Security Functionality
SANTA CLARA, CA March 13, 2008 Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA) and the United States’ National Security Agency (NSA) today announced an agreement to jointly work within the OpenSolaris community to research and to develop security enhancements to complement existing OpenSolaris security mechanisms. SCO Group, best known for suing IBM and claiming it deserved royalties from companies using the popular Linux operating system, said Thursday that a private investment firm has agreed to put up the money to take SCO out of bankruptcy court.Stephen Norris Capital Partners and its partners from the Middle East, which SCO did not identify, have agreed to provide up to $100 million to reorganize SCO and take it private. Wine is a software application which aims to allow Unix-like computer operating systems on the x86 architecture to execute programs that were originally written for Microsoft Windows. Wine also provides a software library known as Winelib which developers can compile Windows applications against in order to port them to Unix-like systems.
