Steve,

Rest assured, it’s most likely a video driver issue. He linked you the
“source” bug, however, you are not running the source engine.

– Half-Life2 and CounterStrike source use the “Source” engine.
– Half-Life1 and CounterStrike 1.6 use the modified “quake2″ engine,
re-branded as “GoldenSource”.

There are known issues with NVIDIA drivers 169.04 – 169.09 (and possibly
others) with GoldenSource games.

Here’s a few links:

I had no luck on this mailing list either, (Steam and Wine don’t debug well
together, so I couldn’t provide enough information).

I kept searching until I found the issue. It is caused by the NVIDIA
driver, but only affects this game from what I’ve found (Quake2, Quake3,
native and in wine work flawlessly).

Hope this helps you in your struggles!

James,

I see that now.  Unfortunately, your prior message wasn't clear as to whether you wanted me to post a bug or search for a bug.  Anything past that, I'm just going to let it lay where it landed.  Right now I just want to figure out what I'm doing wrong with this game.  It's a bit frustrating, as I've managed to get WoW, EVE Online, Starcraft, Warcraft II and III working, but I can't get this bleeding game working.

What I was trying to suggest is that this problem did not have an easy

fix and was in the bugzilla already.
