BAGHDAD: Royal Dutch Shell and Malaysia’s Petronas on Friday won the rights to develop one of the world’s largest remaining untapped oilfields as Iraq staged its second auction of oil contracts since the 2003 U.S. invasion.
The companies proposed a per barrel fee of just $1.39 per barrel and pledged to increase output from the supergiant Majnoon field to 1.8 million barrels per day, more than double what Iraq had expected. The fee was lower than Iraq had been willing to pay.

Intel Corp. (INTC) will have to pay a record EUR1.06 billion fine for breaking European antitrust laws, the European Commission said Wednesday.
The executive arm of the European Union found the world’s largest computer chip maker illegally kept smaller rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) out of competition by paying computer manufacturers and retailers not to use its products.

Some 240 workers will be affected by shutdown
GEORGE TOWN: NEC Computers Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd is closing its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Bukit Tengah Industrial Estate, Penang.
Executive vice-president Bernard Saw said some 240 workers would be affected by the shutdown.
“We will initiate the shutdown process in May and the whole exercise should be completed before the year ends.
“After the shutdown, we will still maintain through our authorised service providers support for our laptop and personal computers (PC) users,” he told StarBiz.

Bank Negara Malaysia(BNM) had revoked its appoval for the proposed acquisition which was earlier given to Maybank. Maybank is the largest bank in Malaysia said to buy 100% of shares from PT Bank International Indonesia(BII) with price of RM4.8 billion.
