rtm1_malaysiaTV1 or Radio Televisyen Malaysia 1 or RTM1 as of April 3, 2006 is a television station in Malaysia that is owned by the Malaysian Government under the Ministry of Information, and operated by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM). TV1 was launched on December 28, 1963. TV1 offers education programs, local information, news bulletin and entertainment programmes in both Malay and English. It was the first and the oldest television channel in Malaysia.

TV1, the popular television station from RTM appeared with a new image and a new name to The Infotainment Channel (formerly known as Prime Channel) by the former Information Minister, Datuk Paduka Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir on August 4, 2004 that focuses as the medium for government to channeling information to Malaysians regarding the government affairs and also entertainment such as dramas, music show, etc.

As of April 1, 2006, the channel changed its slogan to “Saluran Inforia” and was renamed as RTM1. The change of its slogan to “Saluran Inforia” from “Saluran Infotainmen Anda” is in line with the government’s policy to use the Malay language properly. “Infotainmen” is deemed improper (as it is a word combining Informasi, A Malay loanword and Entertainmen (Entertainment) , An English word.)

Being a non-profit governmental department and not subject to commercial pressure, TV1 shows are suitable for family viewing.

As trying to succeed the renewal of RTM, is an effort to apply the good things to direct to the building of personality to make it stable and accessible to the station recently. Other than that, TV2 also received the new image and the new name on August 20, 2004.

Daily broadcasts starts about 10 minutes before Azan Subuh and ends at 2:00am. 24-hour broadcast is only available during the month of Ramadhan.

RTM1, RTM2 and the radio stations that are controlled by RTM are broadcast from their headquarters in Angkasapuri, Kuala Lumpur.

RTM1 currently broadcasts under VHF (Very High) Frequency band III. However, RTM1 still broadcasts under VHF band I in certain remote areas. In the Klang Valley, the VHF channel is 5.

RTM1 is also available over Astro on Channel 101 (formerly channel 5, then channel 1) and over StarHub in Singapore via Channel 39.
